
Interest Groups
Due to COVID-19, some Interest Groups are currently not active. CFUW Orangeville & District members in good standing can join any number of the following or other interest groups:
Active Living: Despite COVID-19, tries to meet one Sunday per month to do assorted activities like hiking, biking, canoeing, skiing, snowshoeing, horseback riding, tennis, etc. NOTE: each month members will take turns contacting & leading the group.
Afternoon Book Discussion: Despite COVID-19, meets one afternoon each month at outdoor patios or via ZOOM to discuss agreed upon books.
Art Appreciation Group: Convenor provides online links and info on virtual art gallery tours, as well as links to the best-of-the-best in dance, fillm, theatre, photography, architecture, sculpture and humour.
Book Exchange: Must be signed-up for this no later than 3rd Wednesday of September. Monthly exchange of mystery or literary books. Cost is $35 per year. The last book you receive in the exchange is yours to keep.
Breakfast Club: Cancelled until further notice. Meets first Friday of each month for breakfast at Angels Restaurant in Orangeville to have fun, companionship and exchange books.
Daytripppers: Cancelled until further notice. Meets several times a year (usually weekdays) for all-day excursions to attractive locations & good restaurants for lunch. Return by 5PM. NOTE: members will take turns planning excursions, and contacting & leading the group.
Dinner Club (in homes): Cancelled until further notice. Groups of 8 women meet monthly at members’ homes to share beautifully pre-prepared dishes provided by the eight members. Best way to get to know people!!
Dinner Out (in restaurants): Weather permitting, the intent during COVID is to dine at outdoor patios or in covered tents at local and regional restaurants. Meets 3-4 times per year for dinner and good conversation in local restaurants.
Evening Book Discussion: Group is filled. This group meets the second Tuesday of each month to discuss an agreed-upon book. (Membership closed after September Meet & Greet.)
Evening Reading Group: Meets on outdoor patios or via ZOOM on the second Tuesday of each month to discuss an agreed-upon book.
Exploring Vegan Cooking: Cancelled until further notice. Meets several times a year at members’ homes to share vegan dishes provided by each member. Vegan knowledge, recipes, tips and food sources are shared.
Friday Night Social: Cancelled until further notice. Meets Friday nights, 3-4 times per year at members’ homes for appetizers, drinks and to just enjoy oneself. No need to drink alcohol or stay up late. You only need to love a good time.
Games: Cancelled until further notice. Meets monthly from Nov. to March at members’ homes on week-ends or evenings to play board and card games.Loads of fun!
Golfing: Meets every Saturday from May thru’ October at local golf clubs. Courses are walked with pull-carts. Tries to keep costs down.
Ice Skating: If arena is open during COVID, this is an occasional morning adult skate at Toni Rose Arena. Outdoor venues will also be considered.
Lunch (at restaurants): Groups of 10 women or fewer meet once per month on outdoor patios at people's homes or at restaurants. Social distancing required.
Needle Arts: Cancelled until further notice. Knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, etc. Available to every level, including total beginners. Meets first Tuesday evening of each month in different members’ homes.
Scrapbooking: In-person meetings cancelled during COVID, but convenor will give advice over phone or by e-mail. [Meets monthly on Sunday from Nov. to April at convenor’s home on Hockley Road. All levels welcome including total newbies. Supplies available if needed.]
Secret Santa Book Exchange: Cancelled until further notice. One time book exchange in early Dec. at a member’s home for secret book gift exchange, laughs, games, conversation and holiday goodies brought by attendees.
Soup and Salad Exchange: Cancelled until further notice. Meets several times a year at members’ homes beginning in early winter in the evening to taste and share Appetizers, Soups, Salads, Breads and Desserts.
Wine, Women & Travel: Cancelled until further notice. Meets at a different member’s home every second Wednesday of each month to share travel experiences, websites, info, best practices, etc. NOTE: each month members will take turns leading the group.
Women In Action: ZOOM meetings to research & champion issues important to our club, such as: Indigenous Issues; Poverty; Gender Based Violence; Children’s Issues & Environmental/Water/Mental Health/Education Issues.
Women’s Getaway Weekend: Cancelled until further notice. Here's a chance to join a group of women for a once a year weekend getaway at an inn, resort or hotel, usually in April. Most recent trips have been to Bayfield, Kawartha Lakes District, Prince Edward County, Port Stanley, Niagara-on-the-Lake and Collingwood.
